Noordwyk schoolchildren, together with residents, help #KnysnaFire victims

MIDRAND — Noordwyk Primary School and residents of Midrand collected a truckload of food and clothing for Knysna fire victims.

In ten days, Noordwyk Primary School and Midrand residents collected a truckload of food and clothing for the victims of the Knysna fires.

This followed after Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin and Noordwyk Primary School principal Lynelle Marx embarked on a Knysna Disaster Relief Drive on 9 June. Schoolchildren and residents were requested to bring food and clothing to the school which was collected by DHL Express Couriers from the school on 20 June.

“Ten days seemed to fly by and in no time at all representatives from DHL Express Couriers arrived at the school to collect the disaster relief for transport to Knysna. Marx asked all learners to bring an item needed by the relief fund as a ‘daily tax’ when they came to school. As a ‘reward’ they were allowed to wear a warm jacket of their choice to school.

“Members of the community joined in en masse – and the result was a full truckload of clothing and provisions for transportation to Knysna,” said Hicklin.

Marx added, “We are committed to instilling an ethos of caring in our learners and were thrilled when Hicklin agreed to assist by making this a community project as well. It was particularly heartwarming to see the community members bringing their contributions to the school.”
