Young minds are empowered in Ivory Park on Youth Day

MIDRAND – Zoe Bible Church hosted a career expo in Ivory Park to assist the youth to venture into entrepreneurship and job seeking.

Zoe Bible Church Midrand Diocese hosted a career expo for the youth of Ivory Park on 16 June in celebration of Youth Day.

The event didn’t only attract the youth of Ivory Park but was also attended by young people from Midrand and Olievenhoutbosch.

Youth president of the diocese Xolani Shabangu said the career expo was focused on entrepreneurship and the workplace because a lot of young people finish matric and do not find space in higher education facilities. This forces them to either roam the streets or seek employment.

Shabangu said the young people received tips on how to prepare for an interview, start a small business and deal with social challenges which make it difficult to obtain higher education, such as finances.

“On the same day in 2016 representatives of different higher education institutions offered career choice advice and assisted the youth with applications. It is also necessary to further assist and offer alternatives to the youth that is not currently studying,” he said.

“The bulk of the youth in townships ends up addicted to drugs or unemployed. As young people in the church, it is our duty to ensure that the youth in our community receives as much information about alternative methods to build their future and how to spend their time wisely.”
