Two people arrested for alleged hijacking by Midrand police

MIDRAND – Two people were arrested for vehicle hijacking in Halfway House and Tembisa.

Midrand police officers arrested two suspects in Halfway House and Tembisa on 7 June for the alleged hijacking of a white Hyundai in Rabie Ridge.

Officials were on the lookout for a white Hyundai which was reported stolen in Rabie Ridge, Case 64/6/17. The police noticed a vehicle that fit the description of the stolen vehicle parked at Halfway House McDonald’s.

Police officials observed the vehicle throughout the night from 6 June at about 10.35pm to 7 June in the hopes that the driver of this vehicle would eventually return to collect it.

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said at about 2.10am on 7 June the alleged suspect, was dropped off at the McDonald’s by another vehicle. The suspect then went to the stolen vehicle and before he could drive off, the police arrested him.

“The rest of the accomplices in a different vehicle made a run for it but police managed to get hold of their Tembisa address, and a second suspect was arrested,” said Tlamela.  Police are still searching for the third suspect.
