No bail for the Musa Sebola murderer – family wants him to stay behind bars

MIDRAND — The man arrested for the murder is a local businessman and an ex-lover of the murdered boy's mother, Jane Sebola.

The family of Musa Sebola (8), whose burnt body was found on 7 May, wants the accused arrested for his murder to be refused bail.

The man arrested for the little boy’s murder and kidnapping appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 13 June and his case was postponed to 23 June due to a malfunctioning stenotype machine. The case has been postponed five times since the suspect was arrested on 3 May.

“The state must not grant him bail because he is a threat to society,” said Musa’s grandfather Simon Sebola outside the court. “It won’t be safe for Musa’s friends who revealed that [the accused] was the one that had taken [Musa] outside the school gate on the day of his disappearance. He knows them and what if they also become victims? He must remain behind bars until his case is concluded.”

Musa went missing on 2 May after he did not return from school. His body was found near a river in Bapsfontein five days after his disappearance. The man arrested for the murder is a local businessman and an ex-lover of the murdered boy’s mother, Jane Sebola.

“Part of me wishes the court proceedings had begun so I could find out exactly what happened to my child,” she said. “But another part of me is relieved that he is still in jail because I wouldn’t feel safe if he were to be released.”
