Midrand police visit Nokuphila Preschool for an educational talk on safety

MIDRAND – Midrand police teach children about safety.

Midrand police together with Metro police visited Nokuphila Preschool for an educational talk on safety on 5 June.

Sergeant Matome Tlamela of Midrand Police Station, who heads the station’s school operations, said the schoolchildren were given an awareness talk on the dangers of talking to strangers and offered safety tips to prevent being abducted.

Schoolchildren were told to avoid strangers, walking or playing in dark areas, going up or down a lift alone and playing far from home with no parental supervision.

“There has been a consistency of women and children being kidnapped and killed, therefore the talk was aimed at assisting children to avoid being the targets of such crimes,” said Tlamela.

The schoolchildren were taught about their rights and responsibilities.

Tlamela said she hopes that such talks will play a role in shaping the community and protecting vulnerable children.
