Encouraging children to partake in martial arts to improve body and mind

MIDRAND – Six martial arts students graduated to yellow-belt level at Dragon Palm Martial Arts School in Noordwyk.

Dragon Palm Martial Arts School in Noordwyk held a graduation ceremony on 4 June for six students who qualified for the yellow belt.

Chief instructor and founder of Dragon Palm Martial Arts School, Nayashen Naidoo said he was very proud of the graduates. He said the aim of establishing the school was to spread the value within martial arts and to impart basic knowledge of self-defence which could save lives. “I also felt that the art is slowly dying, especially among our youth. Martial arts is more than just combat, it has many healing aspects to it. It promotes preservation and longevity of the body,” he said.

Chief instructor Nayashen Naidoo, Kaiuren Naidoo, Will Williams, Leolin Morgan, Zaaria Mohamed, Jonothan Moodley, Kira Van Wyk and instructor Sizwe Ndwandwe at the graduation ceremony.

Naidoo said he is an eighth generation Kung Fu instructor and a qualified kickboxing and fitness coach. He also falls under the Yin Style Baguazhang International association, which is headed by grand master, Hei Jin Bao in Beijing, China.

“People should attend to improve their fitness, calm their minds and learn to defend themselves. Parents should encourage children to join the classes as it promotes discipline, improves confidence and helps them socialise. Most importantly, it assists them to develop into balanced individuals.”
