Stop and search roadblock on Summit Road leads to arrest

MIDRAND – Midrand police arrested two men allegedly for an unlicensed firearm and rounds of ammunition.

 

Midrand police arrested two men on 27 May for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The police held a roadblock on Summit Road, so most vehicles were stopped and searched.

The roadblock led to the arrest of two men when the police stopped a grey Toyota Corolla and searched it. They found one revolver and four rounds of ammunition hidden inside the car bonnet near the water bottle.

Station Commander of the Midrand Police Station, Brigadier David Tsotsotso was part of the team that ran the roadblock operation.

The Midrand Police Station’s Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono said Tsotsotso likes to get involved with the groundwork of the police and therefore will be present during some operations.

Suspects appeared before the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 29 May.
