Shootout during routine patrol leads to arrest in Noordwyk

MIDRAND – One suspect was arrested during a police patrol that ended in a shootout.

 

Midrand police were allegedly attacked by two men during a routine patrol on Lever Road in Noordwyk, Midrand on 23 May.

The patrol officers, Constable Isaac Khosa and Constable Junias Mabotja spotted two men lying in the veld along Lever Road at about 5.30am.

“When the police officers stopped their vehicle to investigate, the men immediately opened fire and allegedly started shooting at the police, causing the police to retaliate, which resulted in one suspect being shot on the buttocks and arrested, while the second suspect managed to run away,” said Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono the communications officer at the Midrand Police Station.

Two pistols were recovered and the suspect will appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon.

The police are still on the hunt for the second suspect and have asked the community for information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.
