Man arrested in Ivory Park Ext 2 for ‘kidnapping and extortion’

MIDRAND – A 42-year-old man was arrested in Ivory Park for alleged kidnapping and extortion.

A man was arrested in Ivory Park Ext 2 on 25 May after he was charged with kidnapping and extortion.

The 42-year-old suspect was arrested after the victim opened a case at the Ivory Park Police Station. The victim alleged that the suspect, along with an accomplice kidnapped him and 14 others, and made them pay a fee before being freed.

“After paying the money, he was released and he opened a case against the suspects. Only one suspect was found and arrested. It appears that the other [victims] who were also kidnapped, were released by the suspect but we don’t know under what circumstances,” said the spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

“The police are still looking for the owner of the vehicle that transported the complainant and other victims from Musina to Gauteng. The victims were taken to a house in Ivory Park Ext 2 where they were told to pay R3 000 each. Their valuables were confiscated and they were made to phone their next of kin for ransom money.”
