Ivory Park police arrest suspect for carrying an unlicensed firearm

MIDRAND – Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park police, has welcomed the confiscation of a firearm and the arrest of a suspect.

 

Ivory Park police arrested a man on 22 May for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and three rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested during a routine patrol by crime prevention officers.

“When the suspect saw the police, he attempted to flee but was caught by police and also had the pistol he was carrying confiscated,” said Ivory Park police communication officer Captain Bernard Matimulane.

“The pistol will be taken to forensics to check if it had been used to commit crimes in Ivory Park or anywhere else.”

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park police, has welcomed the confiscation of the firearm and the arrest of the suspect.

“Considering the number of robberies committed with firearms, the recovery of this firearm is welcomed,” he said. “We further appeal to the community to report anyone that they see in possession of a firearm whether at taverns or homes.”
