Tears flow at murdered boy’s memorial service in Ivory Park

MIDRAND — PS Tsosane Primary School in Ivory Park held a memorial service on 24 May for the murdered Grade 3 boy whose burnt body was found near a river in Bapsfontein.

It was all sadness and tears at the memorial service for 8-year-old Musa Sebola at PS Tsosane Primary School in Ivory Park on 24 May.

The Grade 3 boy’s burnt body was found near a river in Bapsfontein on 7 May, five days after he disappeared.

Parents and school friends could not hold back their tears during the service in honour of Musa. Alice Masinga, the parent of a Grade 1 child at the school, said she can’t hold back her tears when she thinks about what happened to the little boy.

“I cry as a parent because what happened is terrible. I am terrified for my own child and now fetch her from school myself. Justice must be served. I feel for the boy’s family,” she said.

An ex-lover of the murdered boy’s mother, who is also a businessman, was arrested after Musa’s murder

Jane Sebola, with her mother Jane and father Simon Sebola during the memorial service.

The principal of the school, Michael Masubelele, said it was unfortunate and sad that the boy was abducted outside the school gate, allegedly by someone he knew.

“We thought that one day Musa would be a doctor or someone important in society.

“How can we protect our children? Parents must please collect their young ones from school and tell their children not to go with other people without their permission.

“If there’s is an elder sibling at the school, they should wait for them.”

Masubelele added that a teacher, who is also a psychologist at the school had provided counselling for the children at the school, especially Musa’s friends.

The mother of the boy, Jane Sebola, sat numbly in front of a picture of her son pasted on the wall, flanked by her father Simon Sebola and her sister Janet Sebola as she listened to Musa’s class teacher give a testimony about him.

School friends hold candles at the memorial service of Musa Sebola (8), the Grade 3 boy who was brutally murdered.

“Musa was a child that was active and got along well with other kids. “As his teacher, I am very disheartened by what has happened to him,” said his teacher Maphuthi Matemo, who gave an emotional account of Musa.
