Murdered boy’s mother speaks out

MIDRAND – The mother of the 8-year-old boy who was found murdered said she cannot stop thinking about the pain her son went through during the murder.

The mother of 8-year-old Musa Sebola whose burnt body was found in Bapsfontein on 7 May after he went missing, spoke about her loss for the first time since the incident.

Jane Sebola (33) told Midrand Reporter in an interview at her home in Ivory Park Ext 2 that she is still in shock and disbelief about her son’s death. She had just returned home from a week-long visit to her grandparents in Limpopo to clear her head after the incident.

Sebola sat on the bed and spoke softly, appearing to be struggling to remember certain details about the events in her life. With her hands covering her eyes she said, “I don’t care about the pain I am feeling now. The only thing that is on my mind is the pain my son felt when he was killed.”

Her ex-lover has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of her son.

“He was not happy when I broke up with him in… March, I think. We had been dating for almost three years. I don’t know what to say or think at the moment. I am struggling with a lot of things. I just want him to remain behind bars and not see him,” she said with tears rolling down her cheeks.

The boy’s body was found burnt near a river in Bapsfontein five days after he went missing. He had gone to school and never returned home. His grandfather Simon Sebola who revealed that the boy’s burnt legs had pins [in] and he was tied up with a wire said his daughter was still traumatised and needed counselling.

“We are trying to help her cope as a family but she needs professional help and we cannot afford it at the moment,” he added.

The suspect will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 29 May on charges of kidnapping and murder.
