Ethiopian shopkeeper attacked and killed in Ivory Park

MIDRAND – The Ivory Park police are looking for suspects in connection with the murder of a shopkeeper who was shot dead on 20 May.

 

Ivory Park police are looking for information regarding the murder of an Ethiopian shop owner who was attacked and killed shortly before 10pm on 20 May.

The 31-year-old man was allegedly shot in the neck by one of six robbers who attacked him while he was at his shop in Ivory Park Ext 7. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellphone, cigarettes and airtime vouchers.

According to the police, a witness revealed that six suspects entered the shop and engaged in a fight with the owner. A shot was fired and the witness – who was close to the crime scene – ran for his life!

Commander Brigadier David Ngcobo at the Ivory Park Police Station said he was saddened by the incident. He called on the community to reject criminals in their midst by reporting them to the police.

“We believe that someone may have witnessed this gruesome robbery and murder and the right thing to do would be to report it,” said Ngcobo.
