The family of Musa Sebola (8), whose charred body was found on 7 May, say they won’t rest until the suspect receives a harsh sentence.
Musa, who was in Grade 3 went missing on 2 May and never returned home from school.
His mother’s ex-lover, a local businessman, was arrested after Musa disappeared and charged with kidnapping.
The remains of the boy’s badly burnt body were found by the police in Bapsfontein on 7 May following a tip-off from a passerby. Bapsfontein is 22 km from Ivory Park where Musa went to school. The boy’s grandfather Simon Sebola who gave Midrand Reporter a recount of the events said the family will not find peace until the court hands down a harsh sentence.
“What I saw was sad and traumatising. His burnt legs had pins [in] and he was tied with a wire. I don’t think I would ever forget the sight of my burnt grandson,” he said.
“The post mortem report revealed that my grandson was killed more than five days before he was found. I have every reason to suspect that he was killed on the same day of his disappearance,” said Sebola.
After the suspect was arrested he appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and kidnapping. The case was postponed to 29 May and he remains in police custody.
PS Tsosane Primary School in Ivory Park will hold a memorial service on 18 May for an eight-year-old schoolboy whose burnt body was found near a river in Bapsfontein.
