City of Johannesburg’s effective safety tips for the cold winter weather

MIDRAND – The City of Johannesburg offers safety tips on how to keep warm this winter.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has noted the warning message issued by the South African Weather Service that Johannesburg is receiving significant rainfall and a drop in temperature.

Robert Mulaudzi from EMS said, “The significant drop in temperatures means that most of the citizens of Johannesburg will be exposed to extremely cold temperatures forcing them to use heating and lighting appliances to try and warm themselves. These appliances might be dangerous if they are used unsafely.

“EMS will remain on high alert to make sure that we respond to any emergency which might occur.”

Mulaudzi said that the main focus is on the informal settlements throughout the city since they are the most vulnerable to fires.
