Three suspects arrested in Glen Austin after an alleged house robbery

MIDRAND – Three suspects were arrested in Glen Austin during a house robbery and police are on the hunt for the last suspect.

 

Midrand police officers responded to an alleged house robbery on Celliers Road in Glen Austin on 3 May at about 1.30pm.

When the police arrived at the residence, four suspects allegedly started shooting at the police, with the officers managing to shoot one suspect in the leg.

Midrand Police Station’s communication officer, Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono said the injured suspect was transported to Tembisa Hospital under police guard.

A second suspect was also arrested thanks to the community patrollers who caught him when he attempted to flee the scene.

“Suspects were driving a silver Isuzu double cab bakkie before the robbery, which was later found by the police to have been stolen at Brooklyn,” said Semono.

Police recovered the stolen vehicle on the scene as well as a police hand radio, balaclavas, gloves, jammers, eight aerials, laptops, three firearms, two picks, two hammers and jewellery.

Later that day, the third suspect was arrested on a nearby plot through the assistance of the plot owner.

All three suspects are from Alexandra and are in their late 20s. They will soon appear in Midrand Magistrates’ Court.

Police are still on the hunt for the fourth suspect.
