ANC members call for Ramaphosa to lead at the launch of ‘OR Tambo Fridays’

IVORY PARK - ANC members call for Ramaphosa to lead the organisation during a launch at Ivory Park.

Scores of ANC members called for Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to lead the organisation during the launch of ‘OR Tambo Fridays’ at Ivory Park community hall on 5 May.

They chanted and shouted “Phatha (lead) Cyril Ramaphosa Phatha (lead)” as they waited in song for him.

Although the ANC Greater Midrand Zone 15 secretary Lekwane Phasha said they were not endorsing Ramaphosa’s name as a preferred candidate for the ANC presidency in 2019, he questioned why he should not lead.

“He is the deputy president of the ANC. If there is no fundamental reason for him not to assume the position of president, why can’t we make him the president?” he questioned.

Ramaphosa addressed the ANC members at the launch with the theme ‘Rebuild and Reposition the ANC as the leader of society.

Phasha further said the ANC in Midland felt the need to rebuild the structures of the organisation and make it a society leader by embarking on community based programmes in schools and clinics.

“We also want to reintroduce the idea of role models in locations. We want to recognize achievers in our communities and use them as an inspiration to others,” he added.

Ramaphosa told ANC members who filled the hall that the ANC needed to listen to its people and that many voted against the party in the previous local government elections because the party didn’t listen to their plea. He added that the members needed to refrain from booing political leaders at public events.

“This disease of booing and disruption of meetings must come to an end. It is un-ANC. I was told I was also going to get booed but I know I am not going to get it from here,” he said.
