Man allegedly robbed of R30 000 in Lindokuhle after returning home from the bank

MIDRAND – A man was allegedly robbed by two men at his residence immediately after returning with R30 000.

Ivory Park police are investigating a case of house robbery in Ivory Park’s Lindokuhle after one of the tenants was robbed at his home.

Ivory Park Police Station communication officer Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “The 40-year-old victim went to a bank and withdrew R30 000 ahead of his trip to Zimbabwe but shortly after he arrived home, two armed men arrived and demanded the money that the victim had withdrawn.”

The suspects are said to have searched the victim and stole all the money as well as cellphones belonging to the victim and his wife.

The suspects were able to flee before the police arrived. A search for the two men is underway.

The police believe the suspects were aware that the victim had withdrawn a large amount of money. “At the time of the robbery a silver BMW was seen waiting outside and later sped away with the suspects,” said Matimulane.

Ivory Park police would like to thank those who provided information and a description of the vehicle and said they are determined to follow the information.

The station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has appealed to people to refrain from carrying large amounts of money, but if circumstances dictate that one has to withdraw a large sum, people must be very aware of their surroundings. “If one gets a hint or suspicion that they are being followed, it’s better to call the police, or go to the nearest police station, whichever is convenient,” said Ngcobo.

The police have asked that they be called if someone is carrying a large sum of money and does not feel safe, but can the public trust the police with so many trials of corrupt officers popping up? Tweet @MidrandReporter
