Tshuma Stingers fly the Midrand sporting flag high in community-building event

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club won 35-0 against Eldoranians Rugby Club during the Mazda Family Meet and Play event.

Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club hosted the Mazda Midrand Family Meet and Play on 22 April at Midrand High School. As part of the activities for the day, Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club played against the Eldoranians Rugby Club.

About 60 people attended the day and all the children were treated to a rugby training session to encourage them to be active in sports and rugby.

The club served food and refreshments and ended the day with a clash between the Eldoranians Rugby Club and Tshuma Stingers.

Tshuma Stingers’ chief executive officer, Ndumiso Tshuma said the match was a clash of the titans.

“The young stars who were on the sidelines to witness a live rugby game gleamed with smiles when they saw some of their coaches in their rugby jerseys taking to the fields as players while other coaches adorned their suits to mark the importance of this prestigious occasion.

“It was yet another match in the Golden Lions Senior Grand Challenge in which the Stingers set themselves the goal of lifting the trophy as victors at the end of the season,” said Tshuma.

Within three minutes of taking to the field, Stingers players made their intentions known when Divine Kawadza scored the opening try of the match. Great team co-ordination saw the scoreline swell up quickly with three converted tries 15 minutes into the game. Two more converted tries added to the tally in the second half, leading to the Stingers accumulating five log points with a resounding 35-0 victory over the Eldorado Park side.
