Man wanted for allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the head

MIDRAND - Police are looking for a man that allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head in Kaalfontein.

Ivory Park Police are looking for a man who allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head in Kaalfontein on 24 April.

The 32-year-old woman was shot 15 minutes after midnight during what seems to have been a domestic violence incident.

The spokesperson for Ivory Park police, Captain Bernard Matimulane said the woman heard her boyfriend opening the door and firing two shots.

“The victim suffered bullet wounds to her head and right hand and was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment. It is not yet clear what triggered the shooting, or whether the victim and the perpetrator had an argument or not,” said Matimulane.

A case of attempted murder has been opened.

“As the police, we urge victims to look out for the tell-tale signs of abusive partners. Most start slowly before the physical abuse begins and, in some cases, kill their victims. Some of these signs are controlling behaviour and use of economic power to exert control over their victims. The perpetrators also isolate their victims from their loved ones,” added Matimulane.

The station commander of the Ivory Park Police, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, also urged people who find themselves in abusive relationships to look for help as soon as signs begin to emerge. “Victims should report partners with violent tendencies because failure to do so may cause them their lives, as it so often happens,” concluded Ngcobo.

Anyone with information may contact Ivory Park Police Station on 011 990 9618.
