Taxi boss shot dead on Allandale Road

MIDRAND – One of Alexandra Taxi Association's bosses was shot dead on the corner of K101 and Alexander Road.

 

An Alexandra Taxi Association taxi boss was shot dead on 20 April at about 5pm on the corner of the K101 and Allandale Road in Halfway House, Midrand.

Midrand Police Station’s Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono said, “The deceased is alleged to have been standing outside his grey Toyota Corolla when two unknown men – who pretended to be making a purchase from a nearby street vendor – started shooting at the deceased.”

About 12 cartridges were found at the scene and a case of murder has been opened but the motive for the killing is not yet known.

Taxi violence is not a new thing in Midrand, having taken place during the Mall of Africa route-battle investigations, which are still underway. It’s not yet certain whether the shooting was linked to taxi violence.

Semono said the investigation is still underway and the police are pleading with anyone with information who can assist with their investigations, to please come forward.
