Hyundai branch in Midrand calls for Zuma to step down

MIDRAND – Midrand Hyundai branch protested on New Road in support of the Zuma Must Fall campaign.

About 10 Hyundai employees held a protest on New Road in Midrand in support of the Zuma Must Fall campaign taking place nationwide.

The campaign is calling for President Jacob Zuma to step down or be removed from office by means of a vote of no confidence.

The main opposition, the Democratic Alliance has put forward a motion of no confidence in the president, which will be voted for by the National Assembly on 18 April.

Bryan Harrison the dealer principal for Group 1 Hyundai in Midrand said the company decided to take part in the protests because the recent Cabinet reshuffle by Zuma has left concerns for the business environment.

Harrison said he junk status rating will result in less sales and expensive imports on vehicle parts, therefore affecting the profits of the business.

Furthermore, “the country needs to move away from corruption and start focusing on growing the economy because a junk status will not only affect the rich but will badly affect the poor of poorest because goods will now cost more”, said Harrison.

Harrison clearly stated that he personally feels that the decision to reshuffle the cabinet by the President was not for the benefit of the country was for his own benefit and that of his friends because most of the people which were removed were those who had openly challenged him.

“Other dealerships should have also taken a stand because they also stand to lose and as much as the motor industry is not about politics, the new Cabinet reshuffle will affect the industry”, concluded Harrison.
