Preschool children march in support of human rights in Vorna Valley

MIDRAND – Active Kids Preschool children march from Vorna Valley to Waterfall to raise awareness about human rights in the community.

Active Kids Preschool in Midrand held a march as part of its annual Human Rights Day awareness campaign on 17 March in Vorna Valley.

Susan Mapfumo, the manager of the preschool, said she was pleased with the reaction and support of the Vorna Valley residents who watched on as their children marched.

The children were dressed up and held boards and banners with slogans on them to raise awareness and support for human rights.

Ward 132 councillor, Annette Deppe joined the march was in support of the initiative and to also encourage the children to continue marching on.

Mapfumo said the reason the school came up with this particular campaign was because they did not want future generations to be unaware of the privileges they have.

“Once they understand that they have a right to life, for example, they would never let anyone violate that right against them or anyone around them. The best time to actually let them understand this is while they are still young so that it sticks in their brains,” said Mapfumo.

Active Kids Preschool thanked Deppe for her support, Vorna Valley Spar for donating cookies and snacks, and local police officers for joining the march.
