Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club aims to grow the sport of rugby in Midrand

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers looks to shape young people's lives and enhance education through sport.

Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club is a public benefit organisation operating at Midrand High School.

The organisation was founded in 2013 with boys and girls participating in its rugby development programmes.

The founder and executive officer of the team, Ndumiso Tshuma said his aim was to create an all-inclusive sports environment for participants and to use this as a basis to develop competitive rugby players and administrators in communities where rugby has not always been the game of choice.

“Tshuma Stingers looks to shape young people’s lives and enhance education through sport. Rugby plays a vital role in keeping the players in fruitful engagements. Our team is well integrated with players from primary and high schools, including institutions of higher learning in the Midrand community,” said Tshuma.

In a recent match, Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club’s first team played against Southern Knights at the school. The game had to, unfortunately, be called off by officials after 30 minutes because there were no medical personnel at the game.

Tshuma has thanked the Fury Motor Group and Bernerd Blom of the Fury Mazda Midrand for their sponsorship in developing rugby in the Midrand community, and the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation and the Golden Lions Rugby Union for their continued support.

Players of all age groups, both male and female are encouraged to join the team.
