Developing rugby in schools

MIDRAND – Local rugby development team is put to the test in their first practice game.

The Midrand Rugby Development team played against Bryanston High School in the team’s first practice game, at the Midrand High School rugby field.

The development team comprises boys from Beaulieu College, and Midrand, Christ Church and Uitsig high schools and was their first game after two weeks of trials.

“Our Midrand Rugby Development team trials are aimed at identifying rugby skills and letting the boys have some contact time with the sport. After two weekends of drills and teaching the code of sport, we’ve put them to the test. The boys gave us a good show,” said Kwazi Shangase, sports administrator at Midrand High School.

Practices for the development team take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and 4pm for all the U18 boys. The U16 and U14 boys from around Midrand are welcome to take part from 2.30pm to 4pm.
