College hosts first-timers for orientation

MIDRAND – College hosts a fun-filled orientation week for its first-year students.

The Midrand IIE Varsity College hosted its first-year students for OrientationWeek which included academic sessions on campus, team building, fun in the sun and socialising.

The college held orientation games at the Centurion Rugby Club, visited Wet and Wild at Zambibush Resort and wrapped up their fun-filled week at the Aqua Lounge in Midrand for a party. Public relations and events coordinator at the college, Tim Michael Verne said the orientation week acted as an icebreaker, providing a swift transition into the Varsity College environment.

“I had a great experience at Orientation Week; meeting a whole bunch of new friends was a highlight and let’s not forget, waterslides, mechanical bulls and dancing all night. Truly an unforgettable experience,” said Nia Sekese a first-year student studying teaching.

The academic sessions were designed to ensure new student groups had an understanding of what it took to be successful at tertiary level and all the academic support mechanisms they have available to them on campus. The sessions were hosted by academic support staff and were highly interactive where student engagement was promoted above all else.

“The sessions incorporated elements such as faculty-specific content study skills, time management and the Varsity College Blueprint for Success. We believe our first-year students are now in a position to hit the ground running and we look forward to the year ahead,” said Verne.
