Anti-crime awareness campaign at Midrand Taxi Rank

MIDRAND – An anti-crime awareness campaign was held at the Midrand Taxi Rank.

Midrand police officers and members of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety conducted an anti-crime awareness campaign at the Midrand Taxi Rank.

The campaign was led by the Midrand Police Station operations commander, Captain Lionel Chetty.

Sergeant Matome Tlamela of Midrand Police Station said the taxi drivers were educated about road safety and were encouraged to obey the road signs at all times.

“About 150 pamphlets with safety tips were distributed on the day to assist drivers on how to adhere to the law and road rules. The aim of the awareness campaign was to strengthen the relationship between the taxi operators, commuters and the law enforcement agencies,” said Tlamela.

He said similar programmes would take place more often in future with the assistance of the Metro police and other stakeholders such as the National Traffic Police.

“The campaign was a success but it also came to our attention that there’s a lot of criminal activities that are taking place in the taxi ranks. I plead with the community to report criminal activities,” concluded Tlamela.
