MIDRAND – Midrand police held domestic violence awareness campaign in Kyalami to assist victims of domestic violence.

Midrand police held a social crime prevention gathering as part of the Domestic Violence Awareness campaign at Celebration Church in Kyalami.

Sergeant Matome Tlamela of the Midrand police delivered an address to encourage women to break the silence on abuse and report all incidents to the police.

“I educated the women about the various options available for victims of domestic violence, starting with laying a criminal charge, followed by applying for a protection order. It is the commitment of the police to treat victims of domestic violence with sensitivity and care,” said Tlamela.

“If a police officer fails to carry out his duty to the victim, one may report the matter to the station commander at the relevant police station, but if they still not satisfied by the way the station commander handled your complaint, you a can personally report the matter to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.”
