From Jozi to Los Angeles

HOUGHTON – South African youngster, Gioya Tuma-Waku, is taking Los Angeles by storm.

Gioya Tuma-Waku, a South African dramatic arts student, has moved to Los Angeles and made some waves.

Growing up in Johannesburg, Tuma-Waku dreamed of becoming an actress at the age of 10 while she attended Sacred Heart College. Before she could pursue her dream, Tuma-Waku completed a BCom degree with honours in marketing at Witwatersrand University at her parents’ request.

“Once that was done, she was free to pursue her dream,” said Patricia Kass, Tamu-Waku’s cousin.

“She now lives in Los Angeles and has been involved in amazing projects.”

Tamu-Waku has been part of many ventures including The Palms, a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) web series; and a theatre project called Face Divided, directed by Sandy Martin, who is known for her role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

“I also signed on to a couple of future projects including Up the Ladder, which is a sitcom pilot where I play a supporting character; and a few other exciting projects that I’m not able to disclose just yet,” said Tuma-Waku.
