Pride needs to be restored in City customer service

JOBURG – "We need to stay motivated and highly value the customers we serve daily in order to achieve the best results."

Serving Johannesburg residents with pride is the top priority for the City, said the MMC for Finance, Rabelani Dagada.

Dagada told staff in his department, which includes the customer service centres, the call centres and property unit that they should join him in ensuring that Joburg residents receive the best customer service.

“The residents want us to bring about positive change in the city they love. Our customers, who are our shareholders, expect nothing less than the best customer service they deserve,” he said.

Dagada encouraged the staff to go back to the basics of serving Johannesburg residents with pride, saying that it begins by placing the right people in the right jobs. “It is my appeal to all the staff in group finance, to join me and be agents of positive change in our work spaces where we serve our customers.

“Mayor Herman Mashaba is at the forefront of this change where he is leading a campaign to serve with pride. A core requirement in achieving a professional civil service has to be the right people in the right positions to serve our people,” said Dagada.

“In order to achieve giving our customers the best possible customer service, it starts with our attitudes towards our work. We need to stay motivated and highly value the customers we serve daily in order to achieve the best results.”

Last year the MMC visited some of the employees working in the call centres and walk-in customer service centres, where he urged them to raise the bar on customer service.

“I need all of us to roll up our sleeves, get to work and daily serve our customers with pride. We must always and constantly remind ourselves that the customer deserves the best service. Running a responsive, pro-business and pro-poor government are on the top list of the City. This means we need to take the service we give to our customers very seriously and treat them with the utmost respect as we maintain our professional conduct,” he said.
