Bogus cop arrested

IVORY PARK – The 31-year-old man was allegedly part of a gang of three that impersonated police and robbed a tuck shop.

 

A 31-year-old man was arrested after patrolling police spotted a vehicle in Ivory Park Extension 2 suspected to have been used as a getaway car during a tuckshop robbery on 11 February.

Police followed the vehicle and arrested the man at his house.

During the hold-up, three men allegedly posed as police officers checking for trading licences and robbed the tuckshop of an undisclosed amount of money.

In another robbery arrest, a suspect, who was allegedly part of a three-man gang that held up a local business and stole money, stock and a vehicle with a total value of R150 000, was arrested.

Ivory Park Police Station commander, Brigadier David Ngcobo said, “Businesses must take all reasonable steps necessary to secure their premises and, if they fall victim to crime, they should please memorise any piece of information that may be of use to the police.”

The alleged accomplices in both robberies are still at large.
