Man arrested for burning fake CDs and DVDs

MIDRAND – A Mayibuye man was arrested for manufacturing counterfeit DVDs and CDs.

Warrant Officer Morithi Makuwa received information on 8 January from the community that there was a house on Bonita Street in Mayibuye where counterfeit DVDs and CDs were being manufactured.

Makuwa followed the lead and found the man, who allegedly admitted to making the counterfeit goods.

Rabie Ridge police’s corporate communication officer, Matsobane Masela said, “The same factory is supplying illegal businesses around the Mayibuye and Tembisa areas where we have a problem with counterfeit CDs and DVDs.”

The suspect was arrested and made his first appearance in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 9 January.

“The police would like to enlighten the community and advise that dealing and selling illegal counterfeit goods on the street is an offence and it deprives musicians of their income. It is like selling drugs, which deprive young people of their lives,” said Masela.

They are appealing to the community to be more vigilant of crime and to avoid the house break-ins and hijackings which divide the community.
