Annual Cansa Shavathon comes to Mall of Africa

MIDRAND – The Cancer Association of South Africa is looking for volunteers at the Mall of Africa.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will once again host the annual Cansa Shavathon.

This year will be the 14th Shavathon in South Africa, with events happening at malls across the country on 25 February and at workplaces from 27 February to 3 March.

The Mall of Africa will host a Shavathon on 25 February from 9am to 8pm and 26 February from 10am to 8pm.

They will be hosting the Shavathons within the mall at six different locations and Cansa is in need of volunteers to help out at these stations.

“Volunteers come in all different shapes and sizes and there are various tasks that need to be done. We need volunteers who can help at our registration points, to help spray and shave hair,” said Maria Scholtz, Cansa’s head of sustainability.

“Volunteers not only help to fight cancer through active involvement in our health awareness campaigns and national projects but also gain from the experience by working with a number of mentors, learning leadership skills and meeting new people who enhance their lives, as well as those of their families.

“Volunteers work under the guidance of Cansa staff, and many Cansa volunteers are people who have overcome cancer and choose to help others fight the disease.”
