Eskom stated that for customers to enjoy the benefits of the new smart split meter, they need to receive a Customer Interface Unit (CIU) once the meter is installed in their homes.

The unit will be paired to the meter in the household and the device is used to view meter readings or punch in the token for credit. In addition, it also displays the remaining credit and other meter details.

Residents will need to sign contracts before converting to prepaid. Customers are requested to visit the Customer Service Hub in Rivonia, 21 Autumn Street, to collect the CIU and sign the contract. They are required to bring the latest Eskom account statement and ID documents.

The hub will be open on Saturdays for the duration of the programme from 9am until 2pm.
