Stationery thief arrested

MIDRAND – Primary school security officer in Kaalfontein was arrested for possession of school stationery and groceries.

A man who was employed as a security officer at a local primary school in Kaalfontein, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 18 November after he was found in possession of some of the school’s stationery and groceries.

Ivory Park police communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane said the suspect reported a case of business robbery to the Ivory Park Police Station in which he claimed that he and his colleague were robbed by a group of armed men who allegedly tied them up before fleeing the scene with some of the school’s property and food. Due to the discrepancies between the versions of the two security officers reports, the police commenced with some preliminary investigations and that was when they found stationery and groceries at the suspect’s residence.

“For the record, it must be stated that the stationery and groceries found at the suspect’s place were not the ones reported to have been stolen, but it belongs to the school nevertheless,” added Matimulane.

The station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, was disappointed by the theft of school property. “It is even sadder when the persons tasked with protecting this property are alleged to be involved in some of the theft,” Ngcobo said.
