Kaalfontein man robbed of R30 000

MIDRAND – Kaalfontein man robbed of R30 000 by two armed robbers.

A Kaalfontein man was robbed of R30 000 on 16 November after two armed men allegedly followed him from the bank after he made a withdrawal.

Spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said it was reported that the victim, who was in the company of two friends, had just withdrawn the money at Nedbank in Ebony Park and afterwards boarded a taxi to travel to Kaalfontein.

Matimulane said, “As the victim and his friends were walking home, two men came from behind and one of them [allegedly] took out a firearm. A random shot was fired and resulted in the victim falling to the ground who was then searched and robbed.

“It was during the robbery that the victim recognised the face of one of the robbers as that of a man who had been at the bank earlier, and that the man may have seen him making the withdrawal then.”

Ivory Park police officers are cautioning the community of Ivory Park and surrounding areas to be careful with their money and avoid travelling with lots of money in their possession.

They further advised people to consider paying accounts through Internet banking, PayPal or other electronic means.
