Clean-up operation after flood

MIDRAND – Midrand police conduct a clean-up operation of Sector 2 along the Jukskei River and Mushroom Farm.

Midrand Police Station’s operations commander, Captain Lionel Chetty and his team conducted an operation on 11 November at Mushroom Farm along the Jukskei River.

The operation fell under Midrand’s Sector 2, which includes Vorna Valley, Waterfall Park, Carlswald, Halfway Gardens, Kyalami Hills and Kyalami Glen. The sector is managed by Sergeant Benjamin Nkatingi.

A clean-up operation conducted in Sector 2 with the aim of fighting crime.

Chetty said the operation took place as part of a clean-up of the area in an attempt to bring down the levels of crime because security companies have witnessed suspects going into residential areas in Sector 2 and when the properties’ alarms go off, they run back to the river banks.

The captain said they were also concerned about the safety of the homeless people living near the river following the recent floods. Therefore, the people living on the river banks were not forcefully removed but were warned about the dangers of living there.

Rubbish found along the river is set alight.

Numerous items were found during the clean-up including a pencil case, which is suspected to belong to a school pupil, and burned cable. There were cuts in the fence along the river bank that leads to private property.

Chetty said more operations will be conducted as a follow-up on the information gathered during this operation. No arrests were made.
