Repairs continue on burst pipe in Midrand

MIDRAND – Midrand residents have been struggling with water supply cuts due to a burst pipe.

Some sections of Midrand struggled without water, which lasted for hours on end, on 17 November.
Areas affected Kyalami, Crowthorne, Le Roux Avenue, Bekker Road, New Road, Whisken Avenue and Walton Road in Carlswald.

Ward 132 councillor, Annette Deppe said the water supply was restored last night after it had been off for six hours. She said, “Whisken Avenue and Walton Road were without water for the whole day on 17 November because Johannesburg Water was repairing the pipes, of which also burst at about 6pm the same day.

She also said a temporary repair on the pipe had been conducted and as a result, the residents are now receiving water at a low pressure.
Johannesburg Water is yet to permanently repair the pipe and is expected to work on the problem on 18 November.

Deppe has blamed the pipe burst on old infrastructure and said she hopes new infrastructure will be added to the Region A budget for next year.
