Midrand Primary impresses with drama verse

MIDRAND – Pupils show a great interest in drama and shine at the Segarona Arts and Culture Eisteddfod provincial competitions.

The Midrand Primary School drama group are the champions of the Dramatised Poem Category in the Segarona Arts and Culture Eisteddfod provincial competitions organised by the Gauteng Department of Education.

The school’s speech and drama teacher, Brian Jokozela said the group represented Johannesburg East (District 9) with their English dramatised verse, Come With Us written and directed by Jokozela. The drama group consisted of Mamatsiri Ngoepe, Matlhodi Bokaba, Alicia Motimele, Mbalenhle Moche and Zizo Sobutyu.

“The verse is about unity in diversity and emphasises that no one culture is better or worse than the other,” said Jokozela.
“Our dream is to perform this verse during the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles next year so that we can showcase it to the world.”
He said the verse would be performed again at the National Young Performers Awards at the Roodepoort Theatre next year.
