Metro police bust bogus cop in Midrand

Metro police made yet another breakthrough in nabbing a bogus cop who is believed to be part of a criminal syndicate in the Midrand area.

The DA Shadow MMC for Public Safety, councillor Michael Sun stated that on 5 October, Metro police officers acted on a tip-off by a community member and proceeded to a house in the Ntshonalanga section in Tembisa.

“Upon arrival the officers found the occupant to be in possession of Metro police officer uniforms, a reflective jacket, flash lights, two sets of portable blue lights, eight-channel signal jammers, an unlicensed firearm and pepper spray,” Sun said.

According to Sun, the suspect was arrested and taken to Tembisa South Police Station. “The Metro police gear and equipment seized from the suspect are believed to be used in house robberies and vehicle hijackings. The signal jammer is specifically used to jam cellphone and satellite tracking signals,” he said.

Sun stressed that community members needed to be alert to any suspicious activities and inform the police immediately. “This achievement was possible because of the cooperation of the community. With the help of our residents, we can do even more to make our city safer.”
