The scheme – known as Gofa ke go fega, which loosely translated means, Giving is investing – is an initiative under the council’s Gauteng Oos’ (what’s this, East?) feeding scheme, Pasella Pakkies (Free Parcels).

The donation was given to Freda Tshabani, an Ivory Park resident and a temporary safe care parent who always opens her home to accommodate neglected children. Tshabani said, “I receive a hamper from the council every month; their kindness helps me feed children who come to stay with me. Thank you so much.”

Manager of Christian council Midrand, Prisca Mathabatha said, “The initiative seeks to encourage community members and local corporate organisations to adopt the spirit of giving, either through services such as skills development training for the youth or donating food or time.” Speaking about the recent launch, Mathabatha said it was attended by Pretoria singer, Phillip Botha, who is also the brand ambassador for the initiative.”
