MIDRAND – Rabie Ridge police arrest 2 for a hijacking in Kempton Park

UPDATE: 5 October 2o16, 4pm – Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago has confirmed that a six-year-old girl passenger was hijacked at gunpoint by two assailants on Friday during the day in Norkem Park.

He said that after hijacking the vehicle from the owner the suspects realised that there was a child in the car, “On speeding off with the hijacked vehicle, the six year old girl was flung out of the moving vehicle through a window. The hijacked vehicle was recovered on Monday, 03 October in Midrand where two suspects were arrested and two unlicensed handguns recovered.”

Kgasago said the vehicle tracking signal on the VW Polo disappeared for the whole weekend. On Monday around 10am, the signal re-appeared and was picked up by a team of EMPD K9 Unit, a South African Police Service member and officers from the tracking company.

The vehicle’s signal was repeating along Allandale road moving in the direction of Midrand when the law enforcers cornered the two suspects and placed them under arrest. Two 9mm pistols with twenty-four live rounds were recovered.

Both pistols were found with serial numbers filed off, said Kgasago. The apprehended suspects, aged 34 and 32, were detained at Rabie Ridge police station on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.

INITIAL REPORT: 3 October 2016, 3pm –Rabie Ridge Police Station’s Captain Mofama Masela has confirmed that two men were arrested on 3 October and will be charged for possession of a hijacked vehicle and two unlicensed firearms with two live rounds of ammunition.

Masela said, “The suspects, who were allegedly on the way to commit a robbery, were arrested at Allandale Road in Austin View. The suspects will be detained at Rabie Ridge Police Station and soon appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court facing their charges.

“The vehicle was reported as stolen at Norkem Park Police Station [in Kempton Park].”

According to a post on Facebook the suspects also allegedly threw a child out of the hijacked vehicle, however, this could not be verified.
