Man’s best friend stands with Cansa

WATERFALL PARK – Cansa and Woodrock Animal Rescue come together in solidarity in the battle against Cancer.

Humans and their four-legged friends recently participated in a 1.6km walk and fundraiser at Waterfall Park at The Mall of Africa hosted by the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and Woodrock Animal Rescue.

The event was both a joyous celebration and tender remembrance of those who have won their fight with cancer and for those who had lost theirs.

Both organisations were delighted that Nicola van Kan, manager of the Waterfall Park, arranged the use of the prestigious venue at no cost. The beautiful views, pristine lawns and wide, paved walkways of the park created a stunning venue for dogs and humans.

Hues of purple, Cansa’s colour for the Bark for Life relay events, could be seen in the decorative balloons, bandanas and T-shirts worn by the participants.

The cutting of a purple ribbon kicked off the walk with supporters cheering and setting the mood for the day. Claire Gardiner, a finalist of the Mrs South Africa Pageant, was the emcee for the day; and security company, Gravity, insisted on offering its top-notch service at no charge.

Organisers thanked photographer, Chris Kritzinger, for capturing the moments and emotions of the day.

The highlight of the day for Woodrock Animal Rescue and its supporters was the handover of the branded Hyundai bakkie by Saul van Greunen, principal dealer of Bryanston Hyundai. For the next six months, a dire need has been filled by Hyundai with Woodrock Animal Rescue being able to use this bakkie, as well as benefiting from a R500 monthly fuel allowance.

Organisers thanked the companies and individuals for their donation of the day’s prizes and sponsorship of drinking water stations. These included Specsavers, Cadac, Ivory Tree Game Lodge, Cakes for Africa, Branded Water, Aquatec, Liz Ladeira, Andrew Chenanie, Sakkie du Plessis, Webber Wentzel Attorneys, Polek and Stanley Erwin.
