Free health-testing services for residents

MIDRAND – Are you concerned about the health of your family? The Rotary Family Health Days 2016 will help you get your family's health sorted.

The Rotary Club of Kyalami, in partnership with the Department of Health, will provide free health services under the Rotary Family Health Days 2016 initiative.

In a statement, Rotary Club of Kyalami’s foundation officer, George Mbuthia said Rotary Family Health Days would be held at 110 locations across South Africa from 12 to 14 October.

He said, “In Tembisa, the site for the family health days is the Ivory Park North community hall, and services will be offered from 9am to 3pm on each of the three days. This is the fourth time Rotary Family Health Days has brought free screening and health services to communities in South Africa.”

He added that the National Department of Health provided logistics for the sites with support from Rotary volunteers. “This year, there is a particular focus on adolescent girls and young women as part of the National Department of Health’s strategic plan. The campaign will fast-track efforts to empower young people, especially adolescent girls and women,” concluded Mbuthia.

Free health services offered will include:

  • TB screening and testing
  • HIV counselling and testing
  • Vitamin A supplementation and healthy lifestyle information
  • Immunisation – bring child’s immunisation card
  • Health screening such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and more
  • Educational material on Hepatitis B and C
  • Advice on male medical circumcision
  • Vision screening and eye testing.
