Victim no more, defend yourself

MIDRAND – KatFit and the Tenchi Dojo team presented an Aiki-Sambo self-defence workshop.

Personal trainers of fitness outfit KatFit and members of Tenchi Dojo, a traditional school of the martial art of aikido with a focus on practical self-defence, presented an aiki-sambo self-defence workshop in Glen Austin, Midrand.

Aiki-sambo is a combination of Japanese aikido and Russian sambo.

The attendees were taught the fundamental techniques of self-defence to build confidence in themselves and in their abilities to protect themselves and their family. The workshop also focused on improving a person’s balance, agility, speed, physical conditioning and how to gain more awareness of one’s surroundings.

At the end of the workshop, an aikido grappling competition was held. It was an opportunity for the teachers, shihan Terence Teraine and sensei Suzette Teraine of Tenchi Dojo to judge attendees based on their skills, performance and techniques learnt in the workshop.
