Two people critically injured in head-on-collision in Blue Hills

MIDRAND - At 1:10am Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene, arriving to find the two wrecked vehicles on the road side with debris all over the scene.

Two people were left in critical condition after a head-on collision on the R55 and Tambotie Roads, in Blue Hills, Midrand in the early hours of 18 September.

A driver and a passenger sustained critical injuries, with the passenger being heavily entrapped within the crumpled remains of the vehicle.

Paramedics worked to stabilise the entrapped patient, performing multiple advanced life support interventions, while fire and rescue officials used the “jaws of life” and other specialised hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the passenger free from the vehicle.

After a prolonged “cut out”, lasting roughly an hour and a half, the passenger was finally freed from the the wreckage – having sustained multiple fractures to his lower limbs as well as a serious head injury.

The passenger and driver were further stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further stabilisation.

The events leading up to the collision are unclear and formed part of a police investigation.
