Literacy Day and Spring Day celebrations

MIDRAND – Summerhill School celebrates spring and literacy.

Summerhill School recently celebrated Literacy Day on 8 September.

A teacher at the school, Theresa Oates said, “Pupils came dressed like their favorite characters and had so much fun celebrating literacy and our library proudly issued our first IsiZulu library books to students.”

Oates said the school also hosts an English library with an Afrikaans and IsiZulu section to help pupils build their language skills. She continued, “Grades 1 to 3 pupils from Summerhill Preparatory School celebrated Spring Day and Arbour Day by spending part of their academic time outdoors in the school gardens. Pupils, who came to school dressed in civvies, got down and dirty tidying up the existing gardens around the school and planting new seedlings, flowers and shrubs.”

A spring picnic was held on the main field where pupils enjoyed dancing to music. “Thanks to the continued support, cooperation and generosity of the parents and dedication and commitment from our teachers in contributing to the success of the event,” said Oates.
