Disadvantaged children enjoy airshow

MIDRAND – Grand Central Airport sees disadvantaged children enjoying an airshow...

The Grand Central Airport in Midrand hosted The Children’s Flight initiative which is aimed at encouraging disadvantaged and abused children from various organisations, including the Gracia Child and Youth Centre and the Refilwe Community Project, to dream big.

The initiative is the brainchild of Felix Gosher who started flying in 2005 and obtained his Airline Transport Licence in November last year.

The children enjoyed pizza and drinks, played on a jumping castle and were entertained by a clown.

They excitedly watched an airshow filled with stunts performed by two pilots in two aeroplanes. One of the planes was flown by aerobatic display pilot, Jason Beamish who started flying in 1999. The second plane was flown by Nigel Hopkins who is an aerobatic instructor and examiner.

Gosher hoped that the day has encouraged children to dream big.

Gracia Child and Youth Centre is situated in Pretoria and was founded in 2012 with the vision of creating a safe haven for mistreated and underprivileged children.

Refilwe Community Project was founded in 1991 by Jean Stewart and Yvonne Jacques as a Christian-based community development initiative. From 1991 the organisation established a primary healthcare clinic which incorporates home-based care and tuberculosis.
