Police take safety information to schools

MIDRAND – Knowledge is power, especially for children...

Midrand police officers took its school educational campaign to Midrand Primary and High School to address pupils on bullying, human trafficking and substance abuse.

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Constable Matome Tlamela, said the station, together with the Midrand Police Victim Empowerment Centre and the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency reached out to about 50 pupils.

Tlamela explained, “The aim of the school educational campaign is to enforce school safety and to eradicate the drug-related crimes reported from schools. Pupils were informed about school-based crime prevention, the dangers of drugs in schools and were given pamphlets on safety tips.”

The school’s head of department, Sharira Padayachee said, “It was an important time for pupils at the school and they need all the information they received about drugs and crime so they can stay informed and make good choices in life.”
