The beauty in recycling

RABIE RIDGE – Mrs South Africa Finalist Shadi Chauke's visited Allanridge Secondary School and talked about the importance of recycling.

Midrand resident and Mrs South Africa finalist, Shadi Chauke, visited Allanridge Secondary School in Rabie Ridge, Midrand, on 24 August to give an educational and motivational talk.

The aim was to highlight the importance of recycling, in collaboration with Doreen Manyatelo, from Mpact Recycling. Being a Mrs South Africa finalist, Chauke did not only talk to the pupils about recycling and caring for their environment, she also motivated and encouraged them to work and study hard so their education can contribute towards improving their lives.

She shared with the pupils that she, too, used to be in their shoes as a pupil and spoke of how her parents raised her well and wanted her to do well at school so she could go to university and get a qualification in order to get a decent job and quality of life. She then told them about how passionate she was about storytelling and being in the performing arts from when she was a young girl and how she never let go of her dream to one day pursue a career in that industry.

Chauke now stood before the pupils as an accomplished career woman who is a qualified chartered accountant, an audit partner at one of the largest professional services firms in the world, Deloitte and Touche, and as an actress.

As a living example of someone who attained a solid qualification in commerce and also studied drama part-time, she shared how it is not impossible to work in one profession while pursuing another if she is passionate. She cited that it takes a huge amount of hard work, believing in yourself, persevering and never giving up when you fail.

She then weaved in the importance of recycling by mentioning that if they recycled great quantities of paper and plastic bottles for their school, they could raise money for their school which will supplement its budget and help contribute to their learning.

Manyatelo from Mpact Recycling then gave her talk about who Mpact Recycling is and demonstrated to them the types of materials that they can collect for recycling. Overall the pupils were attentive, inspired and motivated. “It was a joy and an honour to address the pupils,” said Chauke.
